Spirit items are Deadlock's purple gear category, and they exist to amplify a hero's abilities. If you play a caster such as Infernus, Lady Geist, or Seven, these are the items that turn your skills from utility into your primary damage source. This guide walks through the key items tier by tier, explains how cooldown and range scaling actually work, and lays out the order in which to buy everything.
What Spirit Items Boost
The branch's core stat is Spirit Power. Every ability has its own scaling coefficient from this value: the higher it is, the harder your grenades, beams, and blasts hit. Beyond raw damage, Spirit items cut cooldowns, extend range and effect duration, and the top-tier options add whole new mechanics — recasting an ability, for example, or ramping up as you deal damage. That is why you build the branch not just for bigger numbers but for genuine changes in how you play.
Items by Tier
Open with Mystic Burst: it adds a burst of damage on ability hits, costs little, and noticeably improves your lane trades. Extra Spirit gives a baseline Spirit Power boost, while Spirit Strike empowers your first attack after casting an ability. From the second tier, Improved Cooldown is the standout — it shortens the cooldown of all abilities and remains one of the most universal items in the game, because more casts means more damage and control in every skirmish.
Improved Spirit is the core of almost every caster build: a large Spirit Power boost at a reasonable price, usually the first of the expensive slots you buy. Mystic Vulnerability makes a target take increased ability damage and shines when your team focuses it down together. Capping the branch is Boundless Spirit — the priciest tier-four item, granting both huge Spirit Power and a pool of health. You take it last, once your economy allows, and it often decides late-game teamfights.
Cooldown and Range Scaling
Cooldown reduction stacks multiplicatively with other sources, so two cooldown items give less than their summed percentages suggest — don't stack only those. Mystic Reach increases ability range and is indispensable for heroes who need to hit or lock down from a safe distance. Duration Extender prolongs effect duration and is especially valuable on characters with control zones, auras, and long ultimates.
How to Prioritize
A reliable order looks like this: cheap burst and a little cooldown in lane, then Improved Spirit for a mid-game power spike, and only then expensive tier-four items tailored to the situation. If the enemy heals a lot, add Mystic Vulnerability or an anti-heal item. If you die too quickly, hybrid items like Boundless Spirit give you both damage and survivability. The golden rule: invest in Spirit Power only when your hero genuinely has high ability scaling — otherwise weapon items will pay off faster.
