Midas refers to himself as the Golden King, though much of his history is shrouded in mystery. Be it a gift or curse, much of his life revolves around his Golden Touch, which turned his own daughter Jules into gold. At great cost, he returned her to life... but her trust was forever broken.
From the humble beginnings of the First Shadows, he slowly plots the rise of a criminal empire, becoming Spymaster to a merry misfit band of secret agents and mercenaries. As the Boss of the Agency, he orchestrates the proxy war between the GHOST & SHADOW factions (formerly A.L.T.E.R. & E.G.O.) to distract the looming eye of the Imagined Order. Somewhere within his shade of grey lies a heart of gold.
The Storm. Ever-present. Always shrinking. Pushing people into a loop of Battle Royale. He and Jules tirelessly develop a Device to fend it off. Everything goes according to plan—until, as if orchestrated by the IO, a purple lightning bolt strikes it down. Rains give way to tsunami so colossal it covers the whole horizon. Apollo is engulfed by the disastrous flood.
Eventually, Midas' sins catch up to him. Or a shark, rather. He is cast into Hell, but it is not enough to contain him. Thanks to a helping hand from his daughter and most loyal agents, he ascends to the land of the living once more and leads a gang of criminals to bring down the oppressive Robber Baron, a former associate named Fletcher Kane.
With the pilfered earnings and reclaimed notoriety, he gets into reluctant good graces with ex-Imagined Order employee John Jones, and his protogé Hope. Some say that Midas, too, is an IO defector. Through a symbiotic deal, he finances their Supernova Academy to fend off the demons which plague the island of Oninoshima, while he is largely left to his own devices to study the Zero Point further.
With enough Rift Shards collected, he grows curious of what lies beyond the purview of the Epic Games launcher. As it happens, it's the Steam-powered city of New York, and there's 24-Karat magic in the air. The Tilted Towers and Golden Coasts of Fortnite will have to wait.
