Read the death recap before changing equipment
A fight can feel like one burst even when several damage types contributed. Review the recap and identify which source produced the largest repeatable loss. One unusual finishing hit should not outweigh the pattern from the rest of the fight. If weapon fire created most of the pressure, Bullet Resist has a clear purpose. If abilities dominated, Spirit Resist may be stronger. The purchase should answer evidence from several fights, not only the color of the last effect on screen.
Weapon damage can come from an ability
An ability icon does not guarantee spirit damage. Some abilities apply weapon damage and are reduced by Bullet Resist . The item or ability description is therefore more reliable than its animation. When a particular hero is the problem, inspect the damage label in practice or a trusted reference. This prevents buying Spirit Resist against a threat that continues to pass through the defense. Accurate classification is the first defensive skill because every later calculation depends on it.
Spirit damage includes important map threats
Most abilities use spirit damage, and Walkers , Shrines and the Patron also deal this type according to the current rules. Spirit Resist can therefore help during an objective as well as a hero fight. That does not justify buying it in every match. Position still prevents more damage than a small percentage when a player can leave the dangerous area. Resistance is most valuable against damage that cannot be avoided reliably while the team completes its intended action.

Melee pressure needs a specific response
A hero repeatedly caught by heavy melee may need Melee Resist , better spacing or a saved parry. The percentage only reduces damage; it does not stop the control and positioning loss that may follow the hit. Keep enough movement to break the approach and avoid standing against a wall or corner where retreat is impossible. If the enemy invests heavily in melee, a combined answer of positioning and the correct resistance is stronger than trying to absorb every hit.
Percentages should not be added casually
Most resistance sources combine multiplicatively. Two separate bonuses do not always create the simple sum shown in mental arithmetic. The second source works on damage that remains after the first. Resistance reduction is also combined on its own side before affecting the target's defense. Players do not need to calculate every decimal during a match. They need to know that repeated purchases can provide diminishing benefit and should be compared with health, barriers or movement.
Resistance reduction is stronger against well-protected opponents
When an opponent buys substantial resistance, lowering that defense can restore part of the team's damage. The value depends on using the matching reduction and applying it before the important hits. A negative effect that arrives after the main ability has already landed cannot improve that use. Teammates should agree who applies the reduction and which damage follows. This turns an item effect into a team sequence rather than six independent attempts to overcome the same defense.
More health and barriers answer different problems
Resistance repeatedly reduces a percentage of matching damage. Health increases the total amount a hero can lose, while a barrier provides temporary protection that may depend on an activation condition or cooldown. A mixed enemy team can make maximum health more dependable than one narrow resistance. A predictable burst may favor a barrier. Compare the timing of the threat, not only the shop number. The most efficient defense is the one available during the fight the team expects to take.
Use a short defensive checklist
Use three questions before shopping: which damage type is largest, can positioning avoid it, and will the next objective expose the hero to the same source? If the answers support a resistance purchase, choose the matching type and test whether survival actually improves. If deaths continue for another reason, identify the new cause rather than buying more items from the same category automatically. Defense becomes reliable when each purchase corresponds to a visible problem and a planned action.
